Arabesque
Kunsthalle Düsseldorf und KIT – Kunst im Tunnel present their programs at the Salon des Amateurs. Following videos from an number of artists, DJ’s tune in to the vibe of the audience and will be building a musical bridge from Cairo to Beirut and to Düsseldorf.
With »Resistance[s] I+II« the Paris Curator-Label Lowave 17 presents films and videos from the Middle East. The artists question the often monolithic and stereotyped images of these cultures. Apart from the content of their films and videos the works of »Resistance[s] I+II« are intertwined with the context of their production thus blurring the concepts of „here“ and „there.“
RESISTANCE[S] I present eight films and videos from North Africa and the Middle East, offering a valid overview as to the art scene of this region. While travelling around the authors have shaped their identities through the contact with other cultures which they have assimilated in the course of their migration and exile. Each of the artists presented here asks questions of existential, political and esthetic nature and puts the emphasis on the artistic form of expression rather than on the classic kind of storytelling.
